September 7, 2023 marked the passing of Joseph A. Damico, Jr., a founding member of the firm and a true giant in the legal community. Mr. Damico’s unwavering honesty and integrity earned him the trust and admiration of all who knew and worked with him. Mr. Damico was a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1959.
Mr. Damico represented many of the most significant industrial, commercial, institutional and residential land developments in the suburban Philadelphia area. His industrial land developments included the Sun Oil Company’s Marcus Hook Cyclohexane Plant, AQUA of Pennsylvania’s re-building of its Springfield Plant, Scott Paper Company’s Co-Generation Plant in Chester, FP&L Energy’s Co-Generation Plant in Marcus Hook and The Henderson Group’s Folcroft Industrial Park. His commercial land development clients included the development of the Springfield Mall, the Chadds Ford Shopping Center, the Springfield Shopping Center, the Drexelbrook Conference Center and Hotel, numerous shopping centers of the de Botton entities, and numerous Wawa food markets, national pharmacies and restaurants.
Mr. Damico also represented a number of clients in the development of office campuses in Delaware County, including The Henderson Group in the Chadds Ford Office Complexes, the Chesley Office Campus in Media, and Brandywine Realty Company’s Office Campus in Newtown Square. His representation of institutional clients led him to developments including the Natural Science Building at Haverford College, numerous expansion projects for Neumann University, Crozer-Keystone Health Systems and Riddle Memorial Hospital, the Episcopal Academy new campus in Newtown Square, as well as the expansion of the Aronimink Golf Club.
Mr. Damico represented many residential development clients in single family, apartment, condominium and planned residential developments, including Toll Brothers, the de Botton entities, Rouse/Chamberlin, NVWS Associates, L.P. and Shooster Properties.
During his career, Mr. Damico held a variety of governmental positions and/or Solicitorships, including Special Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Solicitor for the Delaware County Clerk of Courts Office, Special Solicitor for the City of Chester, and Solicitor for numerous Zoning Hearing Boards and Municipalities. He served for 32 years as Solicitor for Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where he was instrumental in much of the Township’s various acquisitions of Open Space.
